Classic Car Insurance
Classic Car Insurance
On and off the road, your Classic Car has risks.
Putting the time and effort into restoring an antique or classic vehicle can be rewarding, both personally and financially. Even though they’re typically driven only on special occasions, such vehicles can easily appreciate in value – especially if they are maintained in roadworthy condition and are limited seasonal use.
The last thing you want is to have all your hard work go to waste. You may even enjoy some peace of mind that comes with selecting the right classic car insurance to help protect your investment.
Classic vs. Antique
Classic cars are autos that have been restored to original factory conditions, and are at least 10 years old.
Antique cars are autos that are registered as a historical vehicles, and usually over 25 years old.
Special coverage for classic and antique autos
Insurance generally includes the same coverage found in typical auto insurance policies, such as liability (bodily injury and property damage), uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, comprehensive and collision. However, antique and classic cars have additional insurance needs. As an owner, you should consider the following when purchasing insurance:
- Vehicle Usage: Your policy should reflect limited mileage put on your classic automobile. It could also cover seasonal use only.
- Vehicle Storage: You may benefit by storing a vehicle in a fully enclosed, locked garage. This could be particularly important in regions with cold and inclement winter months.
- Vehicle Valuation: An agreed-value policy works to your advantage, compared with using a stated value. You are guaranteed that in the event of a total loss you are covered for the full amount listed on the policy, minus any deductible.
